REGISTERED NURSE: D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU)

About the Role

The Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a 24-bed ICU that cares for patients from neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, otolaryngology, and oral maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) services. Medical problems most often treated on this unit include: thrombectomies, post-operative craniotomies for brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms, intracranial hemorrhage/hematomas, severe head and/or spinal cord injuries, increased intracranial pressure, caring for and assessing free flaps, doppler usage, tracheostomy care/management, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), Myasthenia Gravis, Status Epilepticus, and Guillain-Barré syndrome. The NCCU has been awarded the AACN Beacon Award for excellence.

The D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital featuring 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care, a state-of-the-art neurosciences center, high-level specialty care for cardiovascular and thoracic patients, advanced imaging, 20 surgical suites, and 3 interventional radiology suites. This 690,000 square foot facility is adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with planned bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in a Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) for post-operative patients
• Oversee care for intubated patients
• Manage external ventricular drains (EVDs)
• Handle seizure management
• Supervise arterial lines

Requirements

• Current Michigan RN license
• Minimum of one (1) year ICU/Critical Care RN experience within the last five (5) years
• Neuro-Trauma ICU experience preferred
• Valid ACLS certification solely through the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Resume required for consideration

Qualifications

• BSN preferred
• CCRN certification
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Strong patient advocate mentality and teamwork approach

Pay

• Hourly range for Registered Nurses: $41.78–$64.81 per hour
• Evening Shift Differential: $3.00 per hour
• Night Shift Differential: $4.00 per hour
• Day Shift Weekend Differential: $2.90 per hour
• Evening Shift Weekend Differential: $5.90 per hour
• Night Shift Weekend Differential: $6.90 per hour
• Charge Nurse Differential: $1.00 per hour

Schedule

• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts
• Every other weekend rotation
• All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union.
