Registered Nurse - Critical Care - Per Diem - Nights

About the role

As a Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will function as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This role focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team for a variety of complex patients. You will direct and oversee care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, while effectively coordinating patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing practices according to the most up-to-date evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care to ensure safe and excellent individualized patient care.
• Assessment:
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Perform age and disease-specific assessments independently, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Recognize clinical and diagnostic changes in patient status.
  • Identify patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
• Planning:
  • Develop a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Formulate age and disease-specific, patient/family-centered goals and outcomes based on assessment data.
  • Develop and coordinate a patient/family-focused, prioritized plan of care encompassing the continuum of care.
• Implementation:
  • Communicate, coordinate, and implement the plan of care.
  • Provide ongoing communication with patient/family, nursing colleagues, and other healthcare team members regarding patient status, care, and treatment plans.
  • Implement age and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner.
  • Provide or coordinate patient/family education and ensure understanding.
  • Perform care according to established protocols, including communication with appropriate persons and documenting events.
  • Deliver nursing care and treatments reflecting patient needs, advocacy, and evidence-based practice in compliance with standards.
  • Perform continuous Point-of-Care electronic documentation of assessments, plan-of-care, interventions, and evaluation of rendered care.
  • Administer medication utilizing bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safe delivery.
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary discharge of patients to ensure safe transitioning and continuum of care.
• Evaluation:
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Initiate interventions related to changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care.
  • Identify ethical issues in practice and bring them to the attention of the team.
  • Recognize and respond to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
• Maintain competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation or individual licensing requirements.
• Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
• Perform physical requirements: lift a minimum of 35 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours a day.
• Adhere to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
• Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current and valid New Jersey Nursing license is required.
• Active American Heart Association (AHA) BLS/CPR certification is required.
• ACLS certification is strongly preferred.
• Six (6) or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
• One year of Critical Care Experience is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred and/or willingness to acquire within three (3) years of hire.
• Proficiency in the care of complex medical, cardiac, and surgical patients.
• Experience with CRRT, IABP, Therapeutic Hypothermia, ICP Monitoring, invasive pressure monitoring, and Roto-Prone is strongly preferred.
• NIH Stroke Certification, 12 Lead EKG, and Critical Care Course are strongly preferred.
• Required to achieve a national nursing certification within 2 years of hire.
• Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, and demonstrate a strong sense of accountability for improving patient and caregiver lives.
• Exceptional focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and ability to deliver high-quality care with a strong sense of patient focus.

Pay

Minimum starting rate of $46.25 per hour. The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Full-time and part-time positions (20+ hours/week) are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
