Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality patient care in an ambulatory service center setting. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients before, during, and after procedures. This role collaborates with physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff to ensure patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
Essential Functions
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and document findings accurately.
- Prepare patients for procedures, including explaining the process and addressing questions or concerns.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, following safety protocols.
- Monitor patient vital signs, condition, and response to interventions throughout care.
- Assist with procedural or diagnostic interventions as required, maintaining sterile technique when appropriate.
- Educate patients and their families regarding post-procedure care, medication administration, and follow-up instructions.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory and accrediting body standards, including infection control and patient privacy (HIPAA).
- Respond to emergencies and provide life-saving interventions as necessary.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of ambulatory surgery nursing practices, including pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure patient care.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills to monitor patient condition and respond to changes or emergencies.
- Knowledge of medication administration, sterile technique, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills with proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams while providing patient education.
Education & Experience
- Current RN license in Tennessee is required and must be in good standing.
- Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN preferred).
- Previous ambulatory care, outpatient, or procedural experience preferred.
- BLS certification required; ACLS certification may be required.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during surgical procedures.
- Capable of lifting, pushing, or carrying up to 50 pounds, including equipment and supplies.
- Adept at bending, stooping, reaching, and maintaining manual dexterity for precise instrument handling.
- Sufficient vision and hearing to perform duties safely and accurately.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Tolerant of operating room conditions, including bright lights, confined spaces, and varying temperatures.
