Job Summary
The RN Charge Nurse provides leadership and clinical expertise on their shift and department, coordinating resources to ensure appropriate staffing tailored to patient needs. They act as a clinical support and role model for staff, promoting professionalism and accountability.
Responsibilities
- Conducts comprehensive patient assessments, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans, and ensures patient, family, and team involvement.
- Directs care delivery through delegation and coordination, evaluates patient responses, and revises plans accordingly.
- Manages staffing needs, allocates resources efficiently, and oversees operational and clinical leadership, including conflict resolution and policy enforcement.
- Supports continuous quality improvement and activates emergency protocols when necessary.
Qualifications & Skills
- Requires current RN license, BLS certification, and unit-specific certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS).
- A bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) is required, with a commitment to obtain it within four years if not already held.
- Prior clinical and mentoring experience are preferred.
- Skills include assessment, planning, collaboration, leadership, and communication.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to read, communicate effectively, manipulate equipment, and assist with patient transfers.
- Must be able to lift and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights.
