Position Objective

The Clinic Registered Nurse is responsible for managing nursing care essential to the assessment, promotion, maintenance, and restoration of patients' health and wellness within their scope of practice. They will efficiently and effectively triage incoming calls and provide a variety of nursing treatment functions, including assessment of symptoms, prioritizing patient appointments, facilitating smooth patient flow, and assisting with physician and clinical support staff within the office.

Essential Job Duties

  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with patients and their families to facilitate lifestyle modifications, follow-up care, medications, patient education on device functions, remote device transmission, in-clinic visits, and other clinic care needs.
  • Schedules tests for patients as needed (CT, Ultrasound, Vascular, Lab, etc.) and surgical appointments with patients and with hospital or surgical center.
  • Communicates with insurance companies to obtain required authorizations and completes patient FMLA and Return to Work forms.
  • Handles DME, Home Nursing Orders and follow-up/Post-Op. calls to patients.
  • Aids physician with in-office procedures and sterilizes surgical equipment as needed.
  • Responds to urgent/emergency clinical situations, assists with answering phones, follows up on medical questions, medication inquiries, assesses and interprets lab results, and updates the MSDS binder as needed.
  • Evaluates and monitors patient vitals, especially cardiovascular readings, and any heart-related devices such as pacemakers and loop recorders.
  • Enrolls, interrogates, and programs patients with cardiac electronic devices in the outpatient setting, daily website checks for urgent alerts, documents any device interrogations and patient care needs.
  • Accurately identifies malfunctions, alerts, and sub-optimal device operations and follows appropriate protocols with making programming changes and notifying physicians.
  • Follows nursing process in assessing symptomatic patients and providing follow-through as needed such as discussing with Physicians, giving instructions to patients, making follow-up appointments, or advising patients go to ED.
  • Triage patients for remote alert notifications.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Two years of clinical nursing experience
  • Experience in cardiology, cardiac nursing, and/or Primary Care preferred
  • Experience with implantable devices and knowledge of device functionality, arrhythmias, and internal electrograms preferred
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the following areas within 90 days of hire: implantable devices, device functionality, arrhythmias, and internal electrograms

Licensure/Certifications

  • Current Maryland Board of Nursing license
  • 4CPR through the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers level)
  • EP Device Certificate (i.e. Metronics) or must obtain within 90 days of hire

Physical Demands

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens. Physical Demands - Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
