Registered Nurse - Brooklyn (Residential Services): Tuesday - Saturday

About the role

We are currently looking for a Registered Nurse to join our team supporting adults with developmental disabilities at one of our residential programs in Brooklyn. This is a Tuesday through Saturday position. This position includes a $10,000 sign-on bonus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team and coordinate health care services for assigned residences.
• Conduct training for staff in medical administration, personal hygiene, basic first aid, dental hygiene, infection control, adaptive equipment, vital signs, signs and symptoms of illness, and other necessary in-services.
• Handle control of communicable diseases and infections through identification, assessment, reporting to consulting physicians, and implementing protective and preventive measures.
• Develop, supervise, review, and revise each resident’s written health care plan based on physician instructions and assessments.
• Integrate therapeutic intervention techniques into programs or homes through consultation with parents/guardians and staff.
• Develop written plans for nursing services as part of total habilitation programs for individuals supported.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews.
• Monitor required staff health records and provide tests in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.
• Provide immediate first aid and refer to outside emergency services or private physicians as needed.
• Maintain a schedule for all appointments, follow up on physicians’ recommendations, and make recommendations as changes occur.
• Keep accurate records of examinations, immunizations, illnesses, accidents, and other pertinent data via progress notes.
• Administer medications when appropriate and supervise AMAP certified staff in medication administration.
• Supervise and train Licensed Practical Nurses and/or less experienced Registered Nurses.
• Monitor progress for self-administration of medication.
• Obtain consents for surgery of residents and review all diagnostic work and consults.
• Attend team meetings, address individuals’ medical conditions, and participate in quarterly examinations.
• Stay abreast of changes in the nursing field and participate in medical reviews for individuals.
• Carry an agency cell phone, be on-call, and respond to questions regarding physician treatment plans.
• Perform other related duties as requested.

Requirements

• License and current registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
• CPR Certification.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Good organizational skills.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, individuals, families, and outside contacts.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Knowledge of equipment typically used by persons receiving services, including wheelchairs and adaptive devices.
• Willingness to work at various program sites.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing.
• Associate's Degree (if completed before 2017) or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
• At least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in the delivery of community-based health services to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Pay

$57/hour - $63/hour + $10,000 sign-on bonus.
