About the role

We are currently looking for a full-time Registered Nurse to join our team supporting adults with developmental disabilities at one of our residential programs in Brooklyn. This position includes a $10,000 Sign-On Bonus and a full-time, 5 day/week schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team and coordinates health care services for assigned residences.
  • Conducts training for staff in medical administration, personal hygiene, basic first aid, dental hygiene, infection control, adaptive equipment, vital signs, signs and symptoms of illness, and other in-services as needed.
  • Handles control of communicable diseases and infections through identification, assessment, reporting to consulting physician, and implementation of protective and preventive measures, including staff training.
  • Develops, supervises implementation of, reviews, and revises each resident’s written health care plan in accordance with physician instructions and assessments.
  • Integrates therapeutic intervention techniques into programs or homes through consultation with guardians, staff, team meetings, case conferences, or informal contacts.
  • Develops written plans for individuals to provide nursing services as part of total habilitation programs.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews as required.
  • Monitors required staff health records and provides tests in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.
  • Provides immediate first aid with referral to outside emergency services or private physician.
  • Maintains a tickler for all appointments, schedules appointments, and follows up on physicians’ recommendations.
  • Keeps accurate records of examinations, immunizations, illnesses, accidents, and other pertinent data via progress notes.
  • Administers medications when appropriate and supervises AMAP certified staff in medication administration; supervises all medication prescribed for individuals in accordance with agency policies.
  • Provides supervision and training for Licensed Practical Nurses and/or less experienced Registered Nurses.
  • Monitors progress for self-administration of medication.
  • Obtains consents for surgery of residents and reviews all diagnostic work and consults.
  • Attends team meetings and medical reviews for individuals as scheduled.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in the nursing field.
  • Carries agency cell phone and is on-call, responding to questions regarding physician treatment plans.

Qualifications

  • License and current registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, individuals, families, and outside contacts.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of equipment typically used by persons receiving services, including wheelchairs and adaptive devices.
  • Willingness to work at various program sites.

Education and/or Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing.
  • At least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in the delivery of community-based health services to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Pay

$57/hour – $63/hour + $10,000 Sign-On Bonus
