About the role
Founded in 1897, St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, IL, is an 182-bed facility specializing in advanced surgical treatments for critical injuries and illnesses, with a focus on emergency care available 24/7. The hospital offers specialty services including heart care, cancer treatment, stroke care, and orthopedics, utilizing minimally invasive procedures with robotic-assisted technology. All services, including comprehensive imaging and lab, are located on one campus. Accreditations include Chest Pain Center (ACC), Primary Stroke Center (TJC), and multiple orthopedic accreditations.
Responsibilities
- Deliver safe patient care utilizing the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Provide direct patient care within the scope of practice, directing and guiding patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel.
- Maintain standards of professional nursing care in the Emergency Department, ensuring accountability for patient care.
- Communicate with physicians about changes in patient clinical condition, including diagnostic study results and symptomatology.
- Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition and treatment response.
- Adhere to EMTALA regulations and report child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies and Hospital Social Worker.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
Requirements
- Current and valid state RN License.
- Current BLS certificate (upon hire and maintained).
- Current ALS certificate (within 30 days of hire and maintained).
- Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC (within 60 days of hire and maintained).
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- ECRN or MICN certificate required within 12 months of hire and maintained.
- EDAP certified facilities: Completion of required annual education.
- Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate within 90 days of hire and maintained.
- Trauma designated facilities: Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) required within 12 months of hire and maintained.
- Non-trauma facilities: TNCC preferred.
Schedule
- Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM.
- Full-time, rotating weekends and holidays.
- Self-scheduling.
Pay
A reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $35.35 to $53.58 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined based on factors including skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
