About the role

A Registered Nurse is needed to support an autistic student with epilepsy in Rensselaer County, NY on the bus to and from school daily. This contract position would require consistent attendance and attentive monitoring of the student while in transit. The student attends school Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

Schedule / Shift:

AM bus run: 6:45am to 9:10am
PM bus run: 1:45pm to 4:00pm (Monday to Friday)
Hours per week: 23.75
Contract length: October 19, 2026 to June 25, 2027 (likely beyond)

Key Duties:

Review the current medical orders and be prepared to follow the emergency medication plan.
Monitor the student while on the school bus in transit to and from school.
Help provide a caring, positive, and safe experience for the student with patience, kindness, and keen awareness.
Maintain daily logs.
Clearly communicate any updates and concerns to the District and RCM as needed.

Requirements

Licenses & Certifications:

Must hold an active New York RN license.

Experience:

Previous experience and comfortability with seizure disorders (monitoring and emergency plans).

Skills:

Consistent attendance and punctuality is vital for this position.
Ability to monitor and care for an individual with a seizure disorder.
Experience working with an individual with autism is a plus.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos.
Ability to ride a bus.
Ability to interact with staff and the public.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work as a team member at all times.
Ability to perform all duties with an awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Pay
