About the role
The Registered Nurse at University Health Services is responsible for providing routine patient care, emergency nursing care, and nursing support to other departments. This role includes triaging and assessing patients, performing admissions assessments, implementing care plans, administering medications, and communicating with patients.
Responsibilities
Triage & Assessment - Performs in-person and telephone triage, conducts comprehensive nursing assessments, determines need for emergency intervention, and administers medications and treatments.
Infirmary - Provides independent nurse visits, supports urgent care patient flow, assists with procedures, nebulizer treatments, wound care, and emergency response.
Outpatient - Provides independent nurse visits, supports urgent care patient flow, and assists with procedures, nebulizer treatments, wound care, and emergency response.
Education & Communication - Educates patients about diagnoses, treatments, preventive care, and healthy behaviors, reduces anxiety through clear communication, and encourages patient participation in care plans.
Documentation - Accurately documents all encounters, treatments, medications, and immunizations in the Electronic Medical Record.
Administrative Management - Assures a safe, hospitable, and therapeutic environment, notifies members of the University community, participates in quality assurance activities, monitors food services, janitorial services, equipment, and supplies, and supports the hiring process.
Leadership/Management - Delegates tasks to nursing assistants and medical assistants, functions as a representative of University Health Services, and participates in special projects and outreach activities.
Training & Professional Development - Actively seeks appropriate Continuing Education opportunities, maintains eligibility requirements for licensure and certification, and participates in Quality Improvement projects.
Qualifications
New Jersey license as a professional Registered Nurse.
5 years of nursing experience in an emergency department, college health setting, or similar protocol based environment.
Bachelor of Science, preferably in Nursing.
Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automate External Defibrillator (AED).
Skilled in basic nursing duties including venipuncture, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections, administering nebulizer treatments, wound care, and Infection Prevention measures.
Ability to perform detailed physical assessments and recognize normal and abnormal signs and symptoms.
Ability to dispense all treatment and medication prescribed in accordance with protocol.
Ability to physically move and ambulate patients, move freely throughout the unit, and stand for periods of time.

Knowledgeable in principles and methodologies needed to support and lead Quality Improvement projects and activities.
