About the Role

We are looking for a Charge Nurse - RN who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of those who need healthcare or are embracing the next chapter of their lives. The Charge Nurse - RN supervises the day-to-day nursing activities of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times, in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Operations Management and Administration (70%)
    • Directs the day-to-day functions of nursing activities, including work assignments for Nursing Assistants.
    • Assists in implementing methods for coordinating nursing services to ensure continuity of resident care.
    • Administers medications and treatments per physician orders and nursing standards.
    • Represents the nursing department during Interdisciplinary Care Plan meetings and answers questions related to care plans.
    • Participates in committee meetings.
    • Makes work assignments and meets with Nursing Assistants to identify and correct problem areas.
    • Provides direct nursing care as needed.
    • Consults with residents’ physicians for planning care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
    • Notifies physicians and families of changes in resident conditions.
    • Authorizes and monitors the use of restraints when necessary.
    • Admits, transfers, and discharges patients as needed.
    • Works with the Unit Manager to reduce hospital readmissions.
    • Attends all-employee and departmental meetings and in-service training.
  • Quality and Compliance, and Risk Management (20%)
    • Ensures nursing procedures reflect day-to-day care standards and are followed by staff.
    • Participates in the maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program.
    • Ensures proper procedures for medication administration, storage, and control.
    • Maintains clean, sanitary, and safe resident rooms, treatment areas, work areas, and equipment.
  • People Management and Development (10%)
    • Supervises CNAs and fosters a positive work environment.
    • Interviews, selects, and orients new direct reports.
    • Defines and promotes performance expectations for high-quality, consistent performance.
    • Evaluates job performance and provides developmental guidance.
    • Monitors accountability with organizational requirements and addresses non-compliance.
    • Participates in in-service training, on-the-job training, and orientation programs.
    • Ensures sufficient staffing plans for absences or vacancies.
    • Responds thoughtfully to staff questions, requests, and work product reviews.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Nursing degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational school.
  • Current unencumbered Ohio RN license.
  • One year of clinical experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or related healthcare setting (preferred).
  • Supervisory experience in long-term care, hospital, or related healthcare setting (preferred).
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) (preferred).
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Working Conditions

  • Sitting: Up to 4 hours/day
  • Standing: Up to 8 hours/day
  • Walking: Up to 6 hours/day
  • Lifting, transferring, pushing, or pulling residents/patients or equipment/supplies: Up to 50 pounds
  • Driving: Up to 6 hours/day
  • Occasional overnight travel
  • Work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
  • 24/7 on-call availability for emergencies
  • Exposure to falls, burns, odors, cuts, and residents with various disease processes
  • Occasional exposure to infectious waste, disease, and bloodborne pathogens (including AIDS and Hepatitis B)
  • Risk Category I for exposure to bloodborne diseases
