Job Summary

Provides professional nursing care to patients according to established procedures; coordinates care planning with other disciplines.

Job Qualifications

  • Experience: Experience preferred but not required
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited program of nursing
  • Req. Cert./ Registration and current RN license in the state where employed
  • CPR certified, unit specified requirements
  • ACLS required

JOB DUTIES

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement program, environmental and infection control standards and other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Writes initial nursing histories, assess patient’s conditions and develop individual care plans for patients.
  • Administers and controls narcotics and medications
  • Evaluates outcomes of patient care, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as necessary to ensure optimal patient care
  • Maintains all required reports, records, stats, etc.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patient’s families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of patient’s medical treatment
  • Observes emotional stability of patients, expresses interest in their progress and prepares for continuing care after discharge.
  • Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines
  • Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy
  • Arranges for patients ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
  • Monitors medical condition of the patient report changes to the appropriate personnel.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives.
  • Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel.
  • Demonstrates competency and professionalism in performing the overall patient care and supervisory responsibilities of the RN position.
  • Maintains confidentiality as defined by hospital policy.
