Job Summary
Provides professional nursing care to patients according to established procedures; coordinates care planning with other disciplines.
Job Qualifications
- Experience: Experience preferred but not required
- Education: Graduate of an accredited program of nursing
- Req. Cert./ Registration and current RN license in the state where employed
- CPR certified, unit specified requirements
- ACLS required
JOB DUTIES
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement program, environmental and infection control standards and other administrative duties as assigned.
- Writes initial nursing histories, assess patient’s conditions and develop individual care plans for patients.
- Administers and controls narcotics and medications
- Evaluates outcomes of patient care, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as necessary to ensure optimal patient care
- Maintains all required reports, records, stats, etc.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patient’s families in accordance with hospital standards.
- Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of patient’s medical treatment
- Observes emotional stability of patients, expresses interest in their progress and prepares for continuing care after discharge.
- Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines
- Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care
- Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy
- Arranges for patients ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
- Monitors medical condition of the patient report changes to the appropriate personnel.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
- Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives.
- Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel.
- Demonstrates competency and professionalism in performing the overall patient care and supervisory responsibilities of the RN position.
- Maintains confidentiality as defined by hospital policy.
