Registered Nurse
About the role
Assist in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established federal, state, and accreditation standards, as well as facility policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient and/or significant others' understanding of the disease process and need for surgical intervention
- Provide perioperative education to patients and their families/significant others
- Demonstrate appropriate nursing management and intervention throughout the perioperative period
- Perform preoperative patient assessments, review surgeon preference cards, and assess equipment and supply needs
- Prepare the operating room, ensuring availability of required supplies and equipment in proper and safe working order
- Provide safe, age-appropriate patient care across the lifespan
- Administer medications safely and accurately per protocol
- Position patients appropriately for surgical procedures, using positioning aids as needed to prevent impaired circulation, respiration, and postoperative discomfort
- Perform surgical prep according to standard of care and surgeon preference
- Follow established protocols for safe use and handling of equipment
- Anticipate equipment and supply needs based on surgeon preference cards
- Handle, label, and document specimens according to policy
- Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are readily available at all times
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked surgical suites
- Participate in medical records review and QAPI activities
- Demonstrate openness to new ideas and adaptability in a changing environment
- Participate in the quality improvement process and support ongoing initiatives
- Maintain professional relationships with physicians and patients by assessing needs and satisfaction with facility services
Requirements
- Required: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Minimum of two (2) years of operating room (OR) nursing experience
- Desired: IV insertion and management skills
