About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) performs floor procedures, triages walk-in and late patients, and handles nurse case management. Responsibilities include assessing labs, consulting as needed, managing the RN phone line, scheduling appointments, providing health education, and ensuring smooth clinic operations.

Hiring Bonus: $1,000 for eligible employees (full-time or part-time at .6 FTE and above) after completing 90 days of employment.

Salary Differential: A 10% pay differential is provided for evening and weekend shifts (4 hours) with direct patient contact, applicable only for completed shifts beginning after 4:00 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Follow up on phone calls within one hour and chart follow-ups as requested by providers by the end of the shift.
  • Triage patients per protocol, including walk-ins, late patients, and telephone triage.
  • Perform floor procedures such as catheterizations, phlebotomy, IV therapy, wound care, and assisting providers with procedures per protocol and skills assessment.
  • Administer injectables, including insulin, antibiotics, pain medication, and immunizations following standard procedures.
  • Administer and monitor oxygen and nebulizers per protocol.
  • Ascertain pre-op needs, schedule appointments, complete pre-op checklists, and arrange labs/tests.
  • Provide patient education on topics such as asthma, diabetes, glucose monitoring, medications, wound care, and disease processes.
  • Manage MD STAT requests per protocol and maintain the crash cart, including ordering supplies.
  • Review and prioritize incoming labs, manage follow-ups, and respond to patient requests for lab results and medical questions.
  • Assist Medical Assistants (MAs) in maintaining efficient patient flow, including rooming patients and completing MA duties as needed.
  • Manage and monitor patients on anticoagulants, track PT/INR results, and observe trends.
  • Perform MA duties to cover breaks or staffing shortages.
  • Provide basic health care information and advice within RN scope of practice, including suture removal and blood pressure checks.
  • Perform nurse case management, including monitoring Coumadin therapy, coordinating pre-ops, and working with home care services.
  • Carry out MD orders accurately and timely for RN follow-up, including arranging repeat labs.
  • Maintain crash cart and oxygen tanks per protocol, logging inventory monthly.
  • Perform pediatric and adult assessments, clinical skills, and treatments per protocol.
  • Maintain valid CPR certification for healthcare professionals and a valid California RN license.
  • Oversee inventory and ordering of immunizations, medications, and medical supplies.
  • Proficiently use the medical management system for scheduling, researching patient information, and checking provider appointments.
  • Assist with medication refills and monitor narcotic requests to ensure adherence to policies.
  • Serve as a resource for MAs in decision-making and patient safety.
  • Fulfill Care Team responsibilities as outlined in Patient-Centered Medical Home procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate or BA/BS degree required.
  • 2+ years of nursing experience in a comparable work environment or equivalent.
  • Valid California RN license.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Records preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently using written protocols.
  • Sensitivity to ethnic and cultural differences and their relevance to health care.
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Fulfill immunization and fit-for-duty regulatory requirements.
  • Prolonged periods of typing and sitting at a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.

Pay

Minimum: $54.00/hour
Maximum: $63.78/hour
