About the role
A registered nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing services to inmates, including assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and evaluations. They also collaborate with other healthcare professionals and ensure the security of the institution.
Responsibilities
- Assess and identify health issues for new inmates and initiate necessary medical records and special needs paperwork.
- Respond to daily medical concerns and emergencies.
- Administer prescribed treatments and medications as needed.
- Prepare examination areas and assist providers during patient exams.
- Maintain IVs for IV therapies as needed.
- Meet regularly with Health Services Administrators to review patient care.
- Serve as Charge Nurse or Acting Supervisor in the absence of the HSA.
- Be prepared to handle emergency situations and follow established protocols.
- Provide CPR instructions and operate AED equipment if trained.
- Use logical reasoning to address patient care challenges and delegate tasks effectively.
- Use standard medical equipment safely and appropriately.
Requirements
- Current and unrestricted RN license.
- Current CPR and BLS certification.
- Current TB test within one year.
- Must maintain all certifications, licenses, and adhere to facility policies.
- Must demonstrate ability to use standard medical equipment.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved professional nursing program.
- Experience in correctional healthcare preferred but not required.
Skills
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Excellent deductive reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to use computers and various software.
- Respect for patient dignity and confidentiality.
