Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care across the care continuum, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans.
- Monitor patient conditions, interpret vital signs and lab results, recognize changes in status, and escalate to appropriate team members promptly.
- Administer medications and treatments safely, adhering to physician orders, hospital policies, and evidence-based guidelines.
- Perform and assist with procedures within scope of practice; ensure sterile technique and patient safety.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough nursing documentation in the EHR; ensure privacy and confidentiality.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (physicians, therapists, social workers, pharmacists) to coordinate comprehensive care.
- Provide patient and family education on diagnoses, medications, self-care, discharge planning, and follow-up needs.
- Advocate for patients and families, ensuring dignity, respect, and culturally competent care.
- Participate in rounding, daily huddles, and care coordination meetings to optimize patient flow and outcomes.
Qualifications
- Current and active nursing license.
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); for advanced practice roles, relevant graduate degree (e.g., MSN) and certification.
- Experience: 7 years of clinical nursing experience relevant to the role/setting.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and, if applicable, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or other specialty certifications.
- Skills: Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and nursing documentation standards; strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and analytical skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams; compassionate patient/family advocacy, ethical judgment, and professionalism; knowledge of safety protocols, infection control, and patient privacy regulations (HIPAA or local equivalents).
Desired Skills and Attributes
- Experience in a specialty unit (e.g., ICU, ED, Labor & Delivery, Oncology, Pediatrics) relevant to the position.
- Leadership or precepting experience; ability to mentor students or new staff.
- Quality improvement, evidence-based practice, or research involvement.
- Multilingual abilities or cultural competence aligned with patient population.
- Ability to manage high-acuity patients and complex care plans.
