About the role

The Registered Nurse requires substantial specialized knowledge, judgement, and nursing skills based on the principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences in the application of the nursing process in assigned departments. The RN must collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; provide physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervise assigned team members and students.

Responsibilities

  • Completes patient assessments, formulates plan of care, oversees implementation of plan of care, evaluates and adjusts plan of care utilizing critical thinking skills.
  • Performs authorized nursing acts consistent with American Nursing Association Standards of Practice or nationally accepted standards.
  • Provides care, counsel, health teaching, and promotion; utilizes Teach Back methodology to confirm comprehension.
  • Administers medication, intravenous therapy, and treatments as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner (LIP).
  • Supervises, delegates, and follows through with other personnel in the performance of nursing care activities.
  • Mentors and precepts students and orients new staff as assigned.
  • Reports pertinent information up the chain of command to Clinical Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, or House Nurse Coordinator.
  • Participates on various teams, committees, or performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, coworkers, and self.
  • Participates in Discharge Planning and Transition of Care, defining patient needs.
  • Serves as a patient advocate and escalates patient-related concerns in a timely manner.
  • Documents pertinent findings in the medical record in a timely manner.
  • Assists patients in performing activities of daily living and functions as an active team member.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development of personnel.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills, active listening, and exhibits compassion and empathy.
  • Practices Handoff communication utilizing SBAR and performs Bedside Shift reporting (unless contradicted).
  • Functions as a positive influence and role model, adhering to professional code of conduct.
  • Respects dignity and confidentiality of all matters relating to patients.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's Degree required (Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing).
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Experience

  • Up to one (1) year of experience preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of acute care nursing experience preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience should be relevant to the specific department in which the nurse will be working.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferred.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with providers at all levels.
  • Able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally, and effectively influence others to achieve necessary outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow direction and facilitate a working environment conducive to change.
  • Exhibits critical thinking skills.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Ability to pass Medication Exam.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Registered Nurse in State required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • De-Escalation Training required within six (6) months of hire.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) Certification required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification required.
  • NIH Stroke Certification required.
  • Advanced Dysrhythmia/EKG certification required.
  • Completion of hospital-approved training program and documented competence in emergency care procedures.
  • Moderate Sedation competency required.
  • Completion of Stroke Modules required.
  • Restraints competency required.
  • Adequate orientation to unit policies, procedures, equipment, safety procedures, infection control practices, and performance improvement monitoring.
  • Rural Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC) preferred.
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) preferred.
