About the Role

Responsible for directing patient care during surgical procedures according to the AORN standards of care, specifically during the intraoperative phase of surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under an approved protocol.
  • Evaluate outcomes and adjust nursing care processes as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Assess patient information; develop plan of care to meet need of patient.
  • Prepare and test equipment in advance of specific surgical procedures.
  • Administer patient support and/or teaching prior to anesthesia induction.
  • Monitor the surgical needs of the patient and participate as a team member to achieve outcomes.
  • Document all significant information reflecting patient care plan.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques and report deviations from standards and nursing practices.
  • Communicate with physicians and other departments to consult on patient status and to ensure continuity of care.
  • Prepare for continuing care of patient following discharge.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, inservices and/or reading journals.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of three years job-related experience or equivalent.
  • RI State Licensure.
  • BLS certification.
