Registered Nurse - Ambulatory (Infectious Disease- Per Diem)

About the Role

Performs an age-specific plan of care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Collaborates with physicians and other health team members in coordinating and implementing procedures and treatments. Uses leadership skills and clinical judgment in coordinating patient care and directing/delegating activities of the patient care unit team.

Responsibilities

• Conducts patient interviews, explains policies and procedures, reviews patient’s chart, and answers questions.
• Assesses gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurological health status; adjusts plan of care as appropriate.
• Evaluates mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, skin condition, pain level, and pain management; documents and communicates findings.
• Assesses psychosocial health status, coping mechanisms, cultural/ethnic needs, and patient expectations to ensure satisfaction.
• Identifies patient outcomes, develops criteria for measurement, and establishes individualized goals.
• Coordinates cost-effective use of supplies, equipment, and medication; collaborates with physicians and health team members.
• Implements the plan of care, ensuring safety precautions, professional skills, and timely reassessment.
• Administers treatments, observes patient conditions, and documents responses to interventions.
• Provides emotional support, maintains a calm environment, and communicates effectively with families.
• Participates in discharge planning, provides instructions, and coordinates referrals.
• Evaluates care effectiveness, performs variance analysis, and improves unit systems for better outcomes.
• Collaborates with care team members, directs activities, and updates physicians on patient condition.
• Interprets and implements treatment regimens, assists physicians during procedures, and delegates assignments.
• Performs decubitus care (grade I-IV), preventive skin measures, dressings, compresses, and irrigations.
• Administers medications safely, educates patients on drug/food interactions, and documents administration.
• Provides patient and family education, explains conditions, and evaluates teaching effectiveness.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within five years of hire.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
• Specialized certifications as needed.

The salary range and/or hourly rate is a good-faith determination of potential base compensation. Factors considered include location, specialty, experience, education, credentials, budget, and internal equity.
