About the Role

The Acute Rehab Unit is a 15-bed unit with single-patient rooms, specializing in providing 3 hours of therapy to patients aged 18 and up. The unit focuses on diagnoses such as stroke, amputations, and multiple traumas, with an average length of stay of 10-14 days. The nursing ratio is typically 1:5-6, sometimes up to 7. This role emphasizes collaboration, communication, and patient-centered care, where nurses are respected as clinical partners influencing diagnostic quality and treatment outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment.
  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, developing and coordinating individualized plans of care.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions effectively.
  • Advocate for ethical and holistic care, promoting patient autonomy, dignity, rights, values, and beliefs.
  • Foster a learning environment for patients, families, and the healthcare team, including formal and informal education.
  • Align practice with safety and quality standards, integrating evidence-based care and using data to improve outcomes.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, practicing at the top of your license within legal and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrate leadership as a change agent, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care.
  • Participate in planning and presenting educational programs.
  • Proficiency in information technology, including electronic health records and communication systems.
  • Work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team, using critical judgment in patient care delivery.
  • Manage multiple responsibilities, urgent responses, and challenging situations with a positive and supportive attitude.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • BSN in Nursing preferred; previously agreed-upon timelines for obtaining a BSN remain in effect.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS certification is unit-dependent.
  • At least one year of experience as an RN, or transition from the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency (NLRN) Program.
  • Must meet unit-specific educational requirements during employment.
  • Specialty certification preferred.
