REGISTERED NURSE | ACUTE ADDICTION TREATMENT UNIT 11-3|FULL-TIME NIGHT SHIFT -12 Hrs (23129)

General Responsibilities

  • Assessment and treatment of patient needs.
  • Identifying and documenting initial observations and assessments.
  • Selecting, planning, evaluating, and documenting care based on assessments.
  • Initiating appropriate referrals to other departments, services, and outside agencies.
  • Direct patient care responsibilities, including giving comprehensive care, initiating and following through with patient teaching, collaborating with the healthcare team, and completing admission/transfer summaries.
  • Administering intravenous medications, establishing IV access, performing phlebotomy, assessing and coordinating pain management, responding to crises, and notifying physicians of changes in management.

Direct Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Completing admission/transfer summary and/or discharge summary.
  • Interpreting clinical data and notifying physicians of immediate changes.
  • Transports patients.
  • Establishes IV access and maintains line.
  • Performs phlebotomy duties as necessary.
  • Assesses and coordinates patients’ pain management.
  • Responds appropriately in crisis situations.

Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Participates in interdisciplinary patient care rounds.
  • Applies principles of infection control and safety.
  • Aids in the orientation of new personnel.
  • Provides clinical supervision of ancillary staff.
  • Maintains established department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Assesses gaps in policies and procedures and creates necessary policies and procedures.
  • Maintains patient’s nutritional status and collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
  • Familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.

Customer Service

  • Respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness.
  • Timely, professional, caring, and respectful in customer service interactions.

Other Duties

  • Orients patient’s family to new environment.
  • Relieves the Nurse Manager/Clinical Director as required.
  • Assists in data collection and analysis of Quality Assurance/CQI monitors.
  • Utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities.
  • Attends mandatory scheduled in-service programs.
  • Participates in nursing committees as required.
  • Attends monthly unit meetings.

Safety Checks

  • Ensures emergency equipment is on hand and in good working order.
  • Recognizes and reports malfunction or failure of equipment to Biomedical Engineering.
  • Takes appropriate action to repair/replace such equipment.

Qualifications

  • Current NJ licensure as RN is required.
  • BLS and IV certifications are required.
  • One-year addiction medicine experience is preferred.

Education

  • BSN required, or proof of enrollment in an accredited BSN program with completion expected within three (3) years of start date.
