Full-time, academic year position. Three 12-hour shifts (7 am to 7 pm) with one Saturday and one Sunday per month. Non-exempt.
Responsibilities
- Perform all nursing duties in accordance with the Connecticut State Nursing Act while adhering to all facility policies and procedures.
- Actively demonstrate a working knowledge of nursing theory, techniques, principles and practice in order to holistically care for the patient/student.
- Provide emergency care to students, employees or others on Kent School campus as outlined in nursing protocol, using nursing assessment skills.
- Monitor patient progress and identify any changes in status, acting on those changes to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Thorough documentation of all nursing visits and follow-up care provided for admissions or temporary admissions.
- Accountability and responsibility for each student admitted until transfer of patient care or shift change.
- Assist physician in caring for patient, giving a complete and thorough report on patients.
- Perform routine nursing care, while using age specific and universal precaution practices at all times.
- Communicate with Kent School employees, students/patients and their families as appropriate with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborate with all members of the healthcare team including the Counseling department and Athletic Trainers.
- Consistently seek educational tools in order to broaden knowledge base of various age groups, diseases and best practices.
- Maintain active CT registered nursing license and current BLS certification.
- Understand the potential to exposure to internal and external hazardous materials including but not limited to blood and BBP, infectious/communicable diseases.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- 2 years of work experience.
- Provide highest level of nursing care for all of the Kent School community.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude.
- Possess a high degree of professionalism.
- Punctual and dependable.
- Able to keep up in a fast-paced work environment.
Physical Requirements
- Must be physically able to respond to any emergency within the Health Center or outside of the Health Center, including moving a patient if deemed necessary.
- Visual acuity within normal parameters.
- Requires substantial movement (motions) of wrists, hands, and fingers with keyboard use.
