The facility includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services such as women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. It operates a Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center and a Primary Stroke Center designated by the New York State Department of Health, offering 24/7 neurological care. The hospital also maintains multiple outpatient sites, including a wound care center, hemodialysis center, and various primary and specialty care offices.

About the role

The Registered Nurse (36) - Med Surg 4S will deliver professional nursing care in alignment with physician treatment plans to ensure patient comfort and well-being. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, developing and implementing care plans, monitoring progress, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. The role also involves directing nursing care delivery, participating in staff orientation, and contributing to unit operations.

Responsibilities

• Collects patient health data by involving the patient, family, and other healthcare providers.
• Performs initial and ongoing assessments based on patient presentation and department policy.
• Records relevant data on the nursing component of the Interdisciplinary Admission Assessment.
• Demonstrates awareness of special needs for diverse age groups, cultures, and patients with disabilities.
• Incorporates discharge planning into the admission process.
• Analyzes assessment data to determine problem identification and expected outcomes.
• Develops and communicates a patient-centered plan of care, integrating cultural, ethnic, and spiritual aspects.
• Formulates realistic goals, sets priorities, and uses time efficiently.
• Implements the plan of care, adapts nursing procedures, and provides patient/family education.
• Recognizes and addresses patient safety hazards.
• Collaborates with team members to implement interventions and delegates tasks appropriately.
• Demonstrates knowledge of drug administration, including incompatibilities, contraindications, and adverse effects.
• Complies with medication policy and procedures for order transcription, verification, administration, and documentation.
• Evaluates patient progress toward outcomes and revises the plan of care as needed.
• Documents patient responses to interventions and updates the plan of care.
• Identifies barriers to outcomes and utilizes resources to mitigate negative impacts.
• Communicates with patients, families, and healthcare providers throughout the evaluation process.
• Provides care that aligns with ethical beliefs and respects patient rights.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance nursing practice.
• Maintains effective interactions with unit staff and other departments.
• Contributes to the professional development of peers and healthcare providers.
• Acts as a facilitator for patient care and unit-related issues.
• Seeks assistance from Nurse Manager or Nursing Administrative Supervisor for resolution of complex issues.
• Accepts feedback to improve patient care and unit functioning.
• Engages in performance appraisals to identify strengths and areas for professional development.
• Collaborates with management to enhance the care environment for patients, families, and staff.
• Demonstrates knowledge of unit-specific principles, policies, and procedures.
• Maintains clinical proficiency through participation in meetings, educational programs, and professional associations.
• Complies with staff meeting attendance requirements.

Requirements

• Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a two-year accredited School of Nursing program.
• Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• BLS certification (must be through AHA).
• De-escalation training.
• Additional certifications based on department:
  • ACLS for ICU, Float Pool, Emergency Department.
  • TCAR Certification for SICU, PACU.
  • PALS and TNCC (within first year) for Emergency Department.
  • CPI and BERT training (within first 6 months) for Behavioral Health RNs.
• Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with culturally diverse patients and families.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Analytical skills to assess and develop solutions for clinical situations or unit challenges.
• Proficiency in clinical care for the assigned age group.
• Physical ability to frequently lift/carry over 75 lbs, push/pull over 100 lbs, bend, squat, kneel, climb steps/ladder, and reach above shoulders.

Qualifications

• For ED RN: 1 year of Med Surg experience.
• For Med Surg Float Pool: 1 year of Med Surg experience.
• For Critical Care: 1 year of ICU/SDU experience.
• For ASU RN: 1 year of critical care experience preferred.
• BSN preferred.
• PALS certification preferred.
• Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (e.g., CAPA) preferred.
• 1 year of nursing experience in preoperative, perioperative, or post-anesthesia care preferred.
• Experience in patient assessment, education, and care planning for pre/post-operative patients preferred.
• Prior experience in discharge planning and coordination of perioperative patients preferred.
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems preferred.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $106,916.04 - $138,356.04 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
