About the role

The position is responsible for providing safe, quality care to patients in a patient care area. Reports to the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Affirms patient safety through adherence to Safe Patient Handling guidelines.
  • Assesses, guides, directs, and facilitates workflow on the unit.
  • Makes staff assignments based on patient acuity, continuity of care, and staff competency.
  • Mentors staff, float, and agency personnel regarding unit/department/hospital policies, procedures/standards, and annual goals and objectives.
  • Maintains awareness of Joint Commission standards, state codes, and practice acts.
  • Maintains fiscal responsibility by monitoring and adjusting staffing during shifts.
  • Evaluates and provides adequate coverage for breaks.
  • Communicates and collaborates with bed placement and the clinical resource to ensure clinical placement is expedited.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Washington.
  • Successful completion of a graduate nurse residency program orientation or six months' experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current BLS certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Preferred for advancement to Charge Nurse role: BSN experience preferred.
  • Unit specific prerequisites listed in the addendum.
