Registered Nurse 2 On Call - OCC

On-Call/Intermittent staff are expected to:

• Be available to work all shifts (day, swing, and graveyard) including weekends and holidays as requested.
• To qualify for benefits upon hire, be willing to work 10 shifts a month.
• Provide written availability by the 10th of each month for the following month's coverage.
• Be willing to complete a paid six-week correctional worker core training (not required).

Registered Nurses will receive shift differential in the amount of $2.50 per hour for evening and night shifts. Additional shift premiums include:

• $1.00 per hour for any hours worked from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
• $3.00 per hour for any hours worked from Friday midnight to Sunday midnight.

A vanpool incentive is available for eligible DOC employees commuting to Clallam Bay Corrections Center or Olympic Corrections Center.

Responsibilities

• Deliver services that promote health, foster healing, and support coping and adjustment to various health conditions.
• Screen, assess, and evaluate incarcerated individuals and their conditions.
• Respond to all requests for health care attention in a complete, timely, clinically appropriate, and therapeutic manner.
• Delegate and supervise work, monitor, manage, coordinate, and deliver health care.
• Plan transitions, make referrals, and arrange follow-up when patients transfer or return to the community.
• Assist patients to improve their skills and ability to provide care for themselves and their families.
• Counsel, consult, teach, advise, and provide health information that improves the quality of health services and/or enhances safety and security.

Requirements

• Active and unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in Washington State. If you hold a multi-state/compact licensure from another state, you must change your primary state of residence to WA and apply for a WA State Multi-State licensure within 60 days of employment.
• OR an unencumbered Multi-State License from a participating Compact Licensure State as outlined by the Nurse Licensure Compact and Department of Health, with completion of Suicide Prevention, EDIR training, and MLS demographic survey.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Washington State license to practice as a Registered Nurse prior to employment.
• Initial and continuous unencumbered/unrestricted licensure.
• One year of experience working as a Registered Nurse.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Pay

$45.01–$73.79 per hour. Salary is based on experience and determined at the time of a final offer of employment.

Schedule

Variable. On-call/intermittent staff must be available for all shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Employees may work directly with or near incarcerated individuals in a potentially hazardous setting. A background check, including criminal record history, will be conducted. A pre-employment drug test may be administered, and applicants who test positive will be disqualified. Tuberculosis (TB) testing may also be required.

This position may require respirator use, including medical evaluation, fit testing, and training. Must be able to work in confined spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and frequently lift up to 30 pounds (rarely up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds).
