Qualifications

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee or holds a privilege to practice in the State of Tennessee under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • A valid motor vehicle operator license may be required.

About the Role

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for registered nursing duties of average difficulty based on a wide range of circumstances. This is the working-level class in the Registered Nurse sub-series. Employees may be assigned to work days, evenings, nights, and/or weekends in an institution, clinic, hospital, home care, or other health care setting.

This role involves nursing assessment and diagnosis, nursing care planning, implementation/intervention, and evaluation. It differs from higher-level Registered Nurse roles in that it does not include clinical responsibility for nursing units, statewide program coordination, or supervisory duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care and procedures according to physician orders and nursing protocol, including administering medication, evaluating side effects, and assessing overall effectiveness.
  • Maintains health care equipment and supplies, tracks drugs and instruments, and performs basic life support and CPR.
  • Participates in emergency response settings.
  • Performs initial and ongoing patient assessments, collecting health history data from patients and families.
  • Performs diagnostic tests on collected specimens to determine patient health status.
  • Compares assessment data to established acceptable ranges to identify abnormalities.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of patient goals and interventions, making adjustments to the plan of care as needed.
  • Documents, completes, and maintains patient health and medication records.
  • Explains tests, procedures, and results to patients, families, and other stakeholders.
  • Educates patients, families, groups, and others on health care plans.

Driver Requirements

Candidates must meet the following minimum driver qualifications:

  • A valid driver’s license.
  • For the past five years, the candidate’s driver record must not include: DUI, reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than 4 moving violations.

Agencies may allow exceptions based on other factors.

Pay

Monthly salary: $4,562.00 - $6,825.00

Annual salary: $54,744.00 - $81,900.00

Schedule

Full-time. May require working days, evenings, nights, and/or weekends.
