Responsible for

  • Coordination of care to meet identified needs of the patient/family.
  • Supervision of patient care utilizing critical thinking and nursing process.
  • Discharge planning, resource identification, and scheduling patients with required services.
  • Monitoring care delivery, advocating for the patient, and care planning.
  • Evaluation of outcomes.

Coordinates

  • Care across the health care continuum.
  • Aids other team members in meeting individual patient needs.

Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSN) required.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with enrollment in a BSN program and degree completion within 2 years of hire or date of transfer to an RN position.
  • Diploma or transcripts on highest degree earned required.
  • Minimum 2 years of current experience in a critical care unit, in an acute mixed unit preferred and 3 years' experience preferred.
  • Surgical, Neuro, Cardiac, and Trauma nursing experience also strong preferred.
  • Challenge and successfully pass the Basic Dysrhythmia course curriculum within 21 days of hire.
  • Basic computer skills/experience with computerized documentation systems required, EPIC experience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
  • Current Basic Life Support Provider (BLS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association.
  • Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) within 30 days of hire/transfer.

Skills

  • Care of the patient receiving Sedation/Analgesia.
  • Care of the patient with Hemodynamic monitoring and/or support.
  • Care of the patient with Neurological monitoring.
  • Care of the patient with Pulmonary monitoring and/or support, including ventilators.
  • Care of the Trauma patient.

Flexibility & Environment

  • Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
  • Willingness and ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Knowledge of pathophysiology of cardio vascular, neurological, respiratory, and metabolic patients.
  • Ability to identify and appropriately intervene in emergent situations related to ventilated patients.
  • Competent knowledge base in core measures to improve patient outcomes.
  • Technical skills to operate and troubleshoot critical care equipment and diagnostic devices.
  • Age-specific care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

Environment Safety

  • Maintaining hallways clear.
  • Closing fire doors.
  • Ensuring medication room/supply doors are locked.
  • Discarding of outdated nourishment.
  • Maintaining refrigerator temperatures on designated logs.
  • Reporting needed equipment repairs to Facilities/Engineering and following up on completion.

Clerical Support

  • Demonstrating proficiency in use of information systems (Meditech, PCS, Acuity, KRONOS and e-mail).
  • Making accurate entries on each system.
  • Performing chart assembly and breakdown.
  • Maintaining accuracy and completeness of information in medical records.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attending Annual Skills Day.
  • Completing all required logs (missed meal/break).
  • Participating in unit cleanliness.
  • Knowledgeable about patient safety, core measures, TJC requirements, and Patient Safety Goals.
  • Approving timecard on time, prior to close of payroll.

Pay & Benefits

The estimated base rate for this position is $50.30 - $77.95. Additional individual compensation may be available for this role through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions. Base rate paid for the first 8 hours of work in a day
1.5x overtime pay for hours 8–12 worked in a workday.
2x double-time pay for any hours beyond 12 in a workday.
