Registered Intern Counselor (RMHCI, RCSWI)

About the role

Responsible for providing individual, group, and family counseling, conducting clinical assessments for new and ongoing patients, and demonstrating expertise in therapeutic interventions and evidence-based practices. Participates in treatment teams and provides service coordination, advocating for patients with the Utilization Review department to ensure comprehensive care addressing issues that may impede recovery.

Responsibilities

• Provide intervention, assessments, treatment planning, triage, and individual/group counseling.
• Initiate and provide family counseling services.
• Deliver clinical services to all patients on caseload and assist with other patients as assigned.
• Participate in weekly treatment team and program staff meetings.
• Ensure timely and compliant documentation per AAC’s policy, meeting contract, licensure, and accreditation standards.
• Communicate efficiently with other departments to ensure optimal patient care.
• Provide clinical services to outpatient and inpatient adult populations.
• Understand and abide by state department standards, facility accreditation, and AAC policies.
• Demonstrate dependability and adaptability with patients and staff.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
• Assist in monitoring and managing the patient community as a therapeutic milieu.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences (social work, counseling, or psychology).
• Registered Intern License (Mental Health Counselor Intern or Social Work Intern) required; actively working toward independent licensure and/or certification in alcohol and drug abuse.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a behavioral healthcare field strongly preferred.
• Experience with substance abuse, addictions, mental health, cognitive behavioral treatment, and motivational interviewing.
• Knowledge of ASAM criteria and electronic health record software.
• Counseling experience with adults, including understanding of psychotropic medications, symptoms, and effects.
• Ability to read, write, interpret written information, type documentation, present to groups, and participate in meetings.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record (if driving a company vehicle or personal vehicle for company business).
