About the role

As a Counselor II, you will provide individual, group, and family counseling, conduct clinical assessments for new and ongoing patients, and demonstrate expertise in therapeutic interventions and evidence-based practices. You will participate in treatment teams, coordinate services, and advocate for patients with the Utilization Review department to ensure comprehensive care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide intervention, assessments, treatment planning, triage, and individual/group counseling.
  • Initiate and provide family counseling services.
  • Deliver clinical services to all patients on caseload and assist with other patients as assigned.
  • Participate in weekly treatment team and program staff meetings.
  • Ensure timely and compliant documentation per AAC’s policy guidelines, meeting contract, licensure, and accreditation standards.
  • Communicate efficiently with other departments to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Provide clinical services to outpatient and inpatient adult populations.
  • Adhere to State Department standards, facility accreditation, and AAC’s policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate dependability and adaptability with patients and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 guidelines.
  • Assist in monitoring and managing the patient community as a therapeutic milieu.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences (social work, counseling, or psychology).
  • Registered Intern License (Mental Health Counselor Intern or Social Work Intern) required; actively working toward independent licensure and/or certification in alcohol and drug abuse.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a behavioral healthcare field strongly preferred.
  • Experience with substance abuse, addictions, mental health, cognitive behavioral treatment, and motivational interviewing.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria and electronic health record software.
  • Counseling experience with adults, including understanding of psychotropic medications, symptoms, and effects.
  • Ability to read, write, interpret written information, type documentation, present information to groups, and participate in meetings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record (if driving a company vehicle or personal vehicle for company business).

  • Prolonged sitting at a desk.
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds at a time.
