About the Role
This position works collaboratively with the Culinary Services team to ensure dietary services meet current federal, state, and local standards and guidelines in a hospital environment, focusing on quality nutrition and patient safety. The Registered Dietitian will support hospitals in Stephens and Jefferson County, Oklahoma.
Responsibilities
- Know, understand, comply with, and convey dietary regulations to Culinary Services team members.
- Educate culinary service team members about food and nutrition.
- Evaluate patients' health and diet needs, calculate nutritional requirements, and analyze nutritional content of food.
- Visit patients admitted with malnutrition or upon request to perform initial nutritional assessments, explain diet needs, record food preferences, and promote quality food service.
- Assist in establishing proper diet plans for patients based on their preferences, health, and physician orders.
- Review therapeutic and regular diet plans and menus to ensure compliance with physician orders; notify nursing of discrepancies.
- Access electronic health records to ensure complete and timely dietary notes and maintain menus in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Plan and present in-service education programs for Culinary Services, teaching nutrition concepts and demonstrating preparation for modified diets.
- Work with the Culinary Services Director to achieve quality food service; submit written reports and address any problems.
- Participate in hospital committees and events as needed.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities.
- Utilize assistive devices for lifting and adhere to safety protocols at all times.
- Understand and follow the facility's fire and disaster plans, including procedures during drills and emergencies.
- Follow infection prevention guidance and maintain required vaccinations per DRH policy.
- Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from an accredited college or university.
- 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare-related foodservice setting preferred.
- Current, active license to practice as a dietitian in Oklahoma.
- Oklahoma food handlers permit required.
- Bloodborne pathogen training required.
- For positions requiring travel: a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance.
- Must be able to support hospitals in Duncan and Waurika, Oklahoma.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Skills
- Fluency in oral and written English.
- Basic computer skills, including navigating information technology associated with the position.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

- Knowledge of proper and safe food preparation, food handling regulations, and best practices.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Math skills for following and calculating recipes.
