Responsibilities
- Lead the professional development of new dental hygienists through comprehensive onboarding, mentorship, and continuous training programs in our Rockford, MN dental practice.
- Help ensure that other hygienists are set up for success.
- Drive innovative strategies and lead hygienists in implementing cutting-edge process improvements to elevate patient care and clinical efficiency.
- Ensure cohesion and continuity across the hygiene department.
- Understand and track hygiene department’s Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
- Actively participate in daily morning huddles for schedule review and ensure a smooth, productive day.
- Collaborates with the Office Manager to ensure adequate coverage of Hygienists to ensure efficient workflow.
- Serve as the key communicator between the dentist and/or Office Manager and the hygiene staff.
- Aids in the professional and clinical development of the hygiene staff.
- Collaborates with the Office Manager to complete annual performance reviews of the hygienists.
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling, root planing, and polishing to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from patients' teeth.
- Conduct comprehensive oral health assessments, including reviewing medical history, evaluating gum health, and identifying potential issues.
- Take and develop dental X-rays as needed, following established protocols for patient safety.
- Complete oral cancer screenings and periodontal assessments.
- Collaborate with dentists to develop individualized treatment plans based on patients' oral health needs.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and nutrition, to prevent dental issues and promote whole-body health.
- Administer fluoride treatments and apply dental sealants to help protect teeth from decay.
- Document patient information and treatment plans accurately in electronic health records.
- Monitor and maintain dental equipment and instruments to ensure proper functionality and infection control.
- Uphold strict infection control and sterilization protocols in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
- Provide exceptional patient care by ensuring a comfortable and friendly environment during appointments.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in dental hygiene and oral health through continuing education.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in relevant area of study / Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program
- State license required
- Certification in local anesthesia administration (if required by practice)
- CPR certification
- Previous Work Experience: Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience as a registered dental hygienist, with demonstrated leadership potential and commitment to excellence
- Demonstrated ability to engage in constructive, growth-oriented feedback that supports team development and personal professional advancement
