About the Role
Provides initial nutrition assessment of patient condition, ongoing reassessment, and follow-up care. Delivers nutrition education services for patients and staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing nutrition assessments of patients
- Provide follow-up care and reassessment
- Deliver nutrition education to patients and staff
- Maintain knowledge of subspecialty areas (nutrition support, diabetes, cardiology, renal, oncology, etc.)
- Stay current with new findings and research in the field
- Use decision-making skills to prioritize patient care
- Identify and address unsafe work conditions or practices
- Safely use chemicals and equipment for patients, visitors, and staff
- Apply knowledge of different formulas when assessing patient nutritional needs
Requirements
- Education from a program approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics leading to registration as a Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist (RD/RDN)
- Approximately 15 hours of continuing education credits per calendar year
- Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (must be achieved within the first 6 months of employment)
- Oklahoma State Dietitian license (must be achieved within the first 6 months of employment)
- Food handler's permit from the Cleveland County Health Department (must be obtained before hire or within 1 week of hire)
- Completion of general and patient care orientation prior to providing patient care
Qualifications
- Six months of clinical experience in an acute care facility preferred
- Basic knowledge of subspecialty areas in nutrition
- Ability to make rational and quick decisions regarding patient care priorities
- Foresight to recognize unsafe work conditions and practices
