Brief Description

Sunbelt Solomon is seeking an experienced Field Service Regional Technical Manager to provide technical leadership, operational oversight, and people development for our regional field service team.

About the Role

This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of transformer installation, maintenance, testing, commissioning, repair, and emergency response activities while driving customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to Field Service Engineers, Technicians, and Project Managers.
  • Serve as the highest regional technical escalation resource for complex transformer service projects.
  • Support troubleshooting of power transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, LTCs, bushings, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Review technical procedures and ensure adherence to company standards and industry best practices.
  • Aid in root cause failure analysis and corrective action planning.
  • Drive standardization of field service processes across the region.
  • Manage regional field service operations to ensure safe, profitable project execution.
  • Coordinate technician scheduling and resource allocation with Operations.
  • Maintain project progress, utilization, labor efficiency, and backlog.
  • Ensure projects meet quality, safety, schedule, and financial objectives.
  • Support emergency customer response during outages.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, response times, and operational efficiency.
  • Champion Sunbelt Solomon's safety culture.
  • Conduct jobsite safety observations and audits.
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Verify technicians maintain required certifications, PPE, and training.
  • Promote continuous safety improvement across the region.
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop Field Service personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish development plans.
  • Identify technical training opportunities to improve workforce capabilities.
  • Aid in succession planning and leadership development.
  • Foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop strong relationships with customers throughout the assigned territory.
  • Participate in customer meetings and technical reviews.
  • Resolve escalated customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Support business development by identifying additional service opportunities.
  • Assist Sales with technical presentations, proposals, and customer visits.
  • Support regional revenue, profitability, and utilization goals.
  • Monitor labor productivity and project performance.
  • Assist with forecasting manpower requirements.
  • Review project costs and recommend operational improvements.
  • Support annual business planning and strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field or equivalent field experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of electrical field service experience involving power transformers, substations, or electrical testing.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience managing technical field personnel.
  • Strong knowledge of: Power transformers, Electrical testing, Transformer maintenance, Commissioning, High-voltage equipment, Protective relay systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to travel 30%.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Expert knowledge of power transformer construction, maintenance, testing, and diagnostics.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety standards.
  • Ability to lead large-scale outage and commissioning projects.
  • Strong project management and planning skills.
  • Financial acumen with understanding of project budgets and profitability.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/field service management systems.
  • NETA Level III or IV Certification preferred.
  • PMP Certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting utility, industrial, renewable energy, or data center customers preferred.
  • Experience with transformer manufacturing or repair operations preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in industrial environments, substations, and customer facilities.
  • Ability to climb ladders, walk uneven terrain, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including arc flash protection, respirators, and fall protection when required.
  • Ability to travel extensively, including overnight travel.
