Job Summary

The Regional Sales Manager is responsible for driving profitable sales growth within an assigned geographic territory and managing key customer relationships. This role partners cross-functionally with Research & Development, Technical Service, Customer Service, and Operations to execute sales strategies, expand market presence, and deliver exceptional customer value. The Regional Sales Manager ensures consistent execution of company sales processes, achieves revenue and margin targets, and represents the organization professionally in the marketplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic plans and account plans to achieve sales growth targets.

  • Effectively conduct new business development: identify and qualify new accounts, understand needs and provide solutions, conduct trials, quote pricing and programs, and close opportunities.

  • Build customer relationships and deploy consultative selling skills to understand customer needs and provide tailored solutions.

  • Plan time and travel effectively, and partner with technical service counterpart, to maintain contact with customers, develop new accounts and respond to needs.

  • Respond promptly to customer needs and inquiries, providing recommendations, solutions and troubleshooting as necessary.

  • Use data and organization to manage territory, prospect, and understand trends and opportunities.

  • Build strong relationships internally with other sales leaders, technical service, customer service, R&D, and other cross-functional colleagues.

Requirements

  • Resides in TN, GA, NC, SC, N. FL, MS, AL, AR.

  • Five (5) years or greater territory sales experience in Industrial coatings.

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.

  • High level of organization and ownership.

  • Strong “hunting” skills with track record of new business development.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.

  • Able to pass a drug screen and background check.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Physical Requirements

  • General Mobility & Field Work: Driving regularly to customer sites, plants, distributors, and job sites (may require travel by car/van and occasional overnight trips).

  • Walking within warehouses, factories, and job sites — sometimes on uneven surfaces.

  • Standing for extended periods during customer visits, demos, plant tours.

  • Climbing stairs, steps, and ladders when visiting industrial environments.

  • Lifting & Carrying: Some roles expect lifting of samples, product literature, small equipment (typical range: up to 25–50 lbs.).

Workplace Conditions

  • Sales Managers in coatings often visit: Job sites with noise, dust, or odors.

  • Must be able to: Wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots).

  • Travel Endurance: Depending on territory size, travel may be frequent and sometimes long.

  • Must be able to work from vehicle/mobile office for periods.

Physical Dexterity

  • Hand-eye coordination for demos and product presentations.

  • Fine motor skills for handling samples, packaging, swatches.

  • Using mobile devices, laptops, and POS tools.

Visual & Sensory Requirements

  • Good vision (with or without correction) for reading product specs, labels, safety info.

  • Hearing adequate for conversation in noisy environments.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and via phone/video.
