About the role
VSC Fire & Security is a leading fire protection and life safety system contractor with a strong commitment to safety. The Regional Safety Manager position is available in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or Oklahoma City.
Responsibilities
- Create and update division safety plans addressing incident count, loss history, OSHA activity, division hiring needs, and employee experience level.
- Conduct visits to each division and meet with leadership to assess safety needs and provide training.
- Conduct safety audits with office safety advocates to verify their abilities and develop action plans for improvement.
- Investigate cause of loss, establish corrective action plans, and measure outcomes with divisional leadership.
- Create Divisional Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) focusing on reducing job site injuries and strengthening safety culture.
- Conduct timely discussions with Regional and Division managers on job site incidents, safety audits, and training needs.
- Act as VSC spokesperson for OSHA Citations, investigating, negotiating with OSHA, and developing action plans with Division management input.
- Train division staff on various safety subjects including new hires, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, Heavy Equipment, Confined Space, LOTO, OSHA 10, OSHA 30, and other safety topics as needed.
- Distribute Safety Alerts to divisions based on incident analysis, safety audit improvements, and other safety-related matters.
- Work with the Claims Manager on workers' compensation and auto claims, including investigations, reporting, compliance, follow-up care, and communication with third-party administrators.
- Participate in corporate weekly workers' compensation meetings as required by the Director of Safety.
- Ensure posting of OSHA Form 300A and assist with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) development and updates for each division.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the construction safety field.
- OSHA 510 or 511 certified (or more) required. Trainer status (OSHA 500) for OSHA 10 and 30 a plus.
- Ability to travel up to 70% of the time to various office locations and job sites.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
- Ability to manage time and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to motivate employees and have exceptional attention to detail and communication skills.
- Eagerness for professional development and growth.
- Ability to pass various background checks.
- Reliable transportation, valid State Driver's License with an acceptable driving record for potential use of company vehicle.
