Safety Manager
About the role
This position builds and drives a proactive safety culture at the plant to foster an environment where employees and supervisors are engaged in safe working practices. It involves preparing, maintaining, and complying with federal, state, and local environmental reporting and permitting requirements, as well as advising on and ensuring compliance with EHS legislation and legal requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain, and comply with federal, state, and local agency environmental reporting and permitting and Corporate EHS Standards
- Advise on all EHS legislation and legal requirements
- Ensure facility maintains ongoing compliance with OSHA/EPA requirements, safety standards, wastewater treatment plant operations, air permits, and waste management practices
- Serve as the interface with local, state, and federal agencies
- Investigate injuries/illnesses, near-misses, and environmental incidents to determine root causes and provide corrective action plans
- Manage and track injury and illness data and environmental metrics, leading to reductions in injury and illness rates and environmental impact and costs
- Develop and implement EHS programs, policies, procedures, and best practice techniques, and implement new regulatory requirements
- Implement and maintain an EHS Management System
- Oversee and optimize EHS training programs
- Conduct EHS assessments at the facility, identify areas for improvement, and lead corrective actions (from plant and corporate/3rd party audits)
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for Wastewater Treatment Plant compliance and management
- Outline specific safety programs and coordinate, review, and update plans such as the plant's Emergency Plan, Hazardous Material Contingency Plan, Hazardous Waste Plan, LEI's, Emission Plan, etc., ensuring objectives are met
Requirements
You need a bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of management experience in an operations/manufacturing environment; equivalent education and experience will be considered. Exceptional leadership skills and ability to mentor and motivate are essential, along with a real passion for EHS. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as proficiency in computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, ability to navigate custom databases, and the ability to work on teams, manage multiple tasks, and interact with senior management.
Qualifications
A preferred candidate will have knowledge or experience in industrial hygiene and/or environmental compliance.
Skills
The ideal candidate should have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, as well as proficiency in computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. They should also be able to navigate custom databases and on-line document management software.
