About the role
Arcosa Aggregates is seeking a Regional Safety Manager based out of our Chandler, AZ office. The position requires an individual with 3+ years’ experience working in a safety capacity in the mining industry. Strong knowledge and experience working with MSHA regulations are required.
Responsibilities
- Serve as safety support to all employees.
- Perform New/Experienced Miner Training at the Western Region office.
- Review all applicable documentation for completeness.
- Purchase and maintain PPE for QC1 and new hires.
- Interact and communicate with MSHA, OSHA and other regulatory authorities as necessary.
- Attend one ASB at a different plant each week.
- Partner with supervisors, plant, and equipment operators to develop and ensure safe equipment operating techniques.
- Compile and submit quarterly MSHA 7000-2 reports for all MSHA-related plants.
- Compile OSHA 300 information and post annually.
- Provide and ensure compliance with information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
- Respond to accidents. Perform drug tests. Take pictures, interview, and write up incident reports. Determine the root causes, hazards, and implement solutions.
- Ensure the implementation, administration, and maintenance of all safety and health programs.
- Initiate, document, and monitor corrective actions for adherence to safety systems.
- Determine corrective or preventative measures, assign responsibility, and follow up to ensure the corrective measures have been implemented.
- Head the safety team to empower employees to become safety leaders.
- Conduct periodic plant safety inspections to ensure safety procedures are in place and detect existing potential accidents and health hazards.
- Update and maintain the Emergency Evacuation Plan for each facility.
- Periodically train employees in proper procedures and conduct periodic emergency evacuation drills to ensure planning is effective in practice.
- Aid in the establishment of additional PPE requirements based on the job-specific requirements.
- Maintain safety training records.
- Other safety-related tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the following regulations: Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Arizona Workers Compensation Regulations.
- Prefer 3+ years’ safety experience in the mining industry.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external business relationships.
- Ability to deal with situations involving sensitive and confidential company information.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects in a timely manner.
- To be self-driven with the ability to make decisions and operate independently with respect to complex issues and business requirements as well as function effectively in a team environment.
- The ability to utilize good judgement and sound reasoning.
- The ability to exercise creative, innovative, and effective problem solving.
- Must have and maintain a clean driving record to be insured for a company vehicle.
- To be dependable (at work when needed, on time, etc.).
- To have integrity and be able to hold yourself accountable.
- Actively promote a safety mindset.
- When you see something, say something. Stop any unsafe acts, mitigate any unsafe situations, and take corrective action immediately.
- Be aware of and observe all safety practices. Including but not limited to- Safety glasses, safety boots, hearing protection, etc. as required.
- Know and follow all safety rules and procedures.
- Participate in ASBs, safety committees and initiatives as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Work environment includes plants, mobile equipment, warehouses, production, and non-production areas.
- This position may require work coverage beyond the normal hours, shift, and on weekends/holidays.
- Ability to tolerate both high and low temperatures, loud noises typical of a manufacturing plant.
- Must be able to meet all MSHA safety requirements.
- Must be able to complete work tasks under various adverse weather conditions including consistent heat in excess of 110 degrees, cold. Rain, etc.
- A typical work schedule consists of daytime hours Monday through Friday but may be required to work nights and or weekends.
- Must be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; grip, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, pull, push, as well as bend and lift up to 80 pounds frequently and consistently throughout the day.
