About the Role
Lead role for Westlake Epoxy plant’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program, including development and implementation of goals, standards, and expectations.
Responsibilities
- Set tactical and strategic direction for Process Safety Management and related programs for Epoxy and within the NA region.
- Actively participate on the Westlake PSM, Epoxy COE, NA Regional, and Site HSE Teams.
- Keep abreast of Corporate and Epoxy PSM strategic initiatives and expectations; provide guidance and feedback regarding all.
- Focus on the “Vision of Zero” as it relates to PSM incidents—develop and carry out programs that effectively control process safety risks in line with regulatory compliance.
- Lead efforts to improve cost reduction and process effectiveness in the areas of process safety management.
- Direct and coordinate third-party process safety consultants in the NA region.
- Ability to lead or support other regional engineering needs/projects at any of the Westlake Epoxy sites.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or similar technical degree with at least 5-8 years of relevant PSM experience, preferably in a chemical, petrochemical, or refinery environment.
- Extensive experience with process safety risk assessment tools and regulatory compliance.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence teams and drive positive change.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and making sound decisions.
- Proficient with business systems, data management tools, and process safety technologies.
Physical Demands
This job is performed mainly in a control room or office setting. Physical presence and predictable attendance are required.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to touch, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb, or crouch.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must respond to audible emergency alarms inside the plant and be able to evacuate when required.
Work Environment
- Noise level is usually moderate, typically in an office setting.
- Some work may be required in operating units, necessitating the use of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.
- May involve exposure to outside elements and require the use of stairs and elevators.
- Travel, including air or auto travel, up to 25%.
