The Work
- Year One — Build the Foundation
- Source acquisition targets across HVAC, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and adjacent trades in the greater SLC / Wasatch Front market
- Walk into owner-operators’ offices and earn their trust
- Evaluate opportunities with our diligence team and lead negotiations through close
- Be Chisel’s face in Utah: at industry dinners, association meetings, referral lunches, and everywhere else the real deals get done
- Year Two — Operate
- Integrate each acquired company onto Chisel’s operating model: financial reporting, tech stack, HR, insurance, shared services
- Recruit and develop a GM for every portfolio company that needs one, or partner with existing operators in these businesses
- Own the operating metrics that matter: revenue growth, gross margin, customer retention, and technician productivity
- Stand up the Utah shared services function as the platform scales
- Year Three and beyond — Scale
- Full P&L accountability across every Chisel company in Utah
- Set the expansion strategy across the Wasatch Front: Salt Lake, Provo/Orem, Ogden, and St. George
- Own relationships with Utah banks, attorneys, brokers, and lenders
- Co-author the Chisel regional playbook — what works here becomes the template for every future market
Who You Are
- Required
- 10+ years in the skilled trades as an owner/investor, operator, or division leader at a $20M+ trades business
- Real roots in Utah: you know the contractors, the associations, the labor pool, and the rules of the road
- A hiring and leadership track record: you’ve built teams, developed people, and held them accountable
- Operator’s fluency with P&L, job costing, unit economics, and what makes a trades business worth owning
- Relationship capital: you can open the door, and the people on the other side are glad to see you
- Ebracese technology — we use AI extensively across operations, hiring, and diligence, and you will too. You don't need to be technical, but you'll be expected use new technologies to push your teams to do the same
- Nice to have
- M&A, partnership structuring, or ETA experience
- Familiarity with field service software (ServiceTitan, Skimmer, Jobber, or similar)
- Active ties to UACCA, ACCA Utah, Utah Roofing Contractors Association, or similar groups
- MBA or prior PE-backed operating experience
