Key job responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end operations for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and decommissioning AWS infrastructure at customer premises and colocation data centers across the US East Coast and Brazil/SAMER.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a team of data center engineering technicians across multiple domestic and international sites; drive a culture of inclusion and operational excellence.
  • Diagnose root causes for rack power, networking, and environmental issues to deliver against 100% uptime goals; own critical event response and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Collaborate with third-party partners, colocation teams, and internal stakeholders (EC2, Networking Eng, Supply Chain) to program manage installations and break/fix activities against SLAs.
  • Define and execute key performance metrics; drive continuous improvement and cost optimization across the region.
  • Partner with peer AMER West/Central and EMEA engineering managers to ensure consistent standards and knowledge sharing.

About the team

AWS Global Field Operations (GFO) is the operational backbone for AWS products deployed outside traditional data centers. The engineering team manages the full infrastructure lifecycle — installation, maintenance, break/fix, and decommissioning — across 70+ countries. This role sits within DCO and reports to the Sr. Manager of GFO AMER & EMEA. We value diverse experiences, work-life harmony, and continuous growth.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of in a managerial/supervisory role with 5 or more direct reports experience
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial electrical and mechanical systems
  • 3+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology or equivalent or 7+ years of experience working in a data center or other mission critical environment with an emphasis on building and equipment operation
  • Experience communicating technical details verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to work in an environment that involves walking, stooping, bending, and climbing to access equipment.
  • Behavioral interviewing and hiring experience
