About the role
The Regional Director Logistics - Americas leads logistics operations across North and South America, ensuring the efficient and compliant movement of clinical trial materials and samples. This role oversees regional logistics teams, optimizes processes, and executes shipments of clinical supplies, time-critical biological samples, and inter-laboratory transportation. The Director manages transportation partners, monitors service levels, identifies risks, and implements corrective actions. As a key point of contact for client strategic discussions, the role requires collaboration with customers and executive stakeholders to develop innovative, cost-effective logistics solutions and strengthen partnerships.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and execution of the Global Logistics Operating Plan in alignment with corporate and business unit objectives.
- Participate in regional logistics strategy, planning, and cross-departmental issues.
- Manage and supervise day-to-day operations of the regional team, including:
- Developing a competent workforce to meet growth plans within budget.
- Ensuring compliance with external regulatory requirements (e.g., IATA, Ministries of Health).
- Balancing workload and managing team performance, taking corrective action as needed.
- Ensuring consistent implementation, use, and review of SOPs.
- Allocating resources to execute Global Logistics services and achieve service levels.
- Improve service levels and develop innovative solutions to meet customer requirements.
- Develop systems, processes, and a skilled workforce to support workload growth within budget.
- Lead regional logistics tasks related to planning, budgeting, and cross-departmental issues.
- Ensure global performance metrics are tracked, monitored, and reported on schedule.
- Manage and supervise staff, including:
- Coordinating progress to meet timelines and goals.
- Day-to-day management and supervision of team members.
- Completing thorough, timely, and well-documented performance evaluations.
- Identifying successors/deputies for key roles.
- Plan and develop resources and skills required for successful logistics strategy execution.
- Monitor, track, and resolve logistics customer complaints, issues, and concerns in collaboration with Sales and Project Management.
- Ensure service failures are identified, tracked, and resolved promptly, with preventative actions to avoid recurrence.
- Instill a culture of continuous improvement, quality, productivity, and profitability.
- Adhere to management communications, meetings, and procedures.
- Manage the team budget effectively and achieve budgeted targets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Economics/Business (additional 5 years of Logistics and/or Transportation experience in the CRO industry may substitute for education).
- Five years of proven experience in Logistics and/or Transportation within the CRO industry, a reputable international transportation company, or an international industrial company with a track record of managing logistics teams.
- Five years of prior leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialization or certification in supply chain and logistics.
- Five years of clinical trial logistics experience.
- Experience with integrators and airfreight forwarders.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated customer satisfaction skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven record of driving continuous improvement.
- High degree of initiative and ability to work collaboratively.
Pay
$120,000–$170,625. All job offers are based on a candidate’s skills, prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, internal equity, and market data.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, first shift.
