Regional Data Center Controls Quality Engineer (CBQE)
About the role
The Regional Principal DCIM – Controls Build Quality Engineer (CBQE) plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful, high-quality implementation of Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), PLC systems, and SCADA platforms for new data center construction projects. This role involves managing relationships and workstreams with key partners, driving standardization, validating system integrity from design through commissioning and turnover, and acting as the owner's point of escalation for controls-related issues.
Responsibilities
- System Integrator Oversight: Support the selection, evaluation, and commercial review of General Contractor System Integrators (CSI) and controls contractors. Lead and manage CSI performance throughout all project phases, including calibrations, quality assurance, and resolution of escalated issues. Serve as the primary point of escalation for system integrator quality concerns and drive issue resolution to closure.
- Project Leadership & Management: Onboard and lead General Contractor BMS Leads, CSI, and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) controls contractors. Support commercial terms and conditions review and evaluation. Coordinate and manage packaged equipment factory-installed controls audits and BMS commissioning audits, tracking deficiencies to completion. Facilitate large multi-stakeholder meetings and weekly cross-functional (XFN) meetings with internal and external teams to align on project status, risks, and next steps.
- Quality Assurance & Standardization: Drive consistency and standardization across all buildings, system integrators, and installation contractors, ensuring alignment with QTS standards and specifications. Perform BMS, PLC, and SCADA inspections (wiring, installation, commissioning) and validate project status and progress. Ensure the quality and functionality of BMS and SCADA implementations, including graphical interface alarms, trends, and graphics. Provide on-site commissioning (Cx) support, including vendor calibrations and witness testing. Support the project benchmark and mock-up process to ensure consistency.
- Risk Mitigation & Continuous Improvement: Identify and mitigate risks associated with controls architecture, including single points of failure and redundancy requirements. Support custom tooling and integration into construction processes. Support cross-functional program initiatives that impact controls delivery. Leverage project data to identify early finish dates for detailed design delivery.
- Documentation & Issue Management: Manage issue resolution from identification to closure, ensuring all issues are documented, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner. Support RFI creation, tracking, and timely closure. Document and communicate controls-related issues and resolutions to all stakeholders.
- Site Visits & Field Activities: Conduct regular site visits to assess installation quality, commissioning progress, and system integrator performance. Provide hands-on support for installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of BMS, PLC, and SCADA systems.
