Position Summary This role assists with business development and marketing efforts across the Western U.S. region and supports the Director of Business of Development and Marketing – U.S. in working with the Office Managing Partners (OMPs) of our five California offices (San Franciso, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Century City and Orange County) with their growth plans. The position will help execute on delivering the firm's broader strategic goals, focusing on client growth, partner engagement, and cross-regional collaboration. The Regional Business Development & Marketing Manager will serve as a strategic connector, aligning local delivery in the Western Regions with global firmwide priorities. Collaboration between the U.S. offices is essential to drive impactful, client-focused initiatives. The role also maintains close coordination with the Global Senior Director of Practice and Industry Groups, the Global Senior Director of Client Focus, and the Senior Global Director of Marketing & Communications to ensure consistency and connectivity in client engagement strategies. Job Duties And Responsibilities Client Development and Market Growth Partner with and advise California Office Managing Partners (OMPs) in strengthening relationships with key clients, prospects, and stakeholders, and partner with OMPs and office administrative leadership to develop, prioritize, and implement office strategic plans and market-specific business development initiatives.Evaluate, recommend, and implement business development initiatives aligned with firmwide, practice group, and industry priorities, with a strong regional focus—including identifying cross-selling opportunities in collaboration with Industry and Practice Group Business Development colleagues.Monitor and analyze California business, legal, and competitive landscape trends and excersice independent judgement in developing recommendations for lawyers and Business Development colleagues to identify opportunities to strengthen the firm's market position.Build and maintain relationships with California business organizations, chambers of commerce, economic development agencies, trade associations, and other influential regional networks; identify and facilitate connections between lawyers and local business leaders, referral sources, industry influencers, and community organizations through networking and strategic introductions.Identify and coordinate sponsorships, partnerships, speaking engagements, and other profile-raising opportunities, and represent the Marketing & Business Development team at local business, industry, and community events to enhance the firm's visibility.Plan and execute regional events—including client programs, sponsorship activations, community events, office milestone celebrations, webinars, internal meetings, and regional MCLE programs—determining appropriate approaches based on business objectives, target audiences, and firm priorities, in accordance with firm standards and best practices.Track lawyer board memberships, leadership positions, and professional affiliations; organize local marketing and business development training; and support lateral lawyer onboarding by coordinating regional marketing and business development activities with the PR, Communications, and Business Development teams.Must be able to travel for meetings and trainings as required. California Market Events and Profile Raising Work with the events and sponsorship team to ensure the firm has visibility at priority industry events, conferences, and forums.Advise the OMP in preparation for key meetings and engagements, developing strategic briefing materials, talking points, and recommended follow-up actions.Collaborate with PR and communications colleagues to raise the profile of the California offices and leadership in local media and professional networks.Champion thought-leadership initiatives and targeted campaigns that showcase the California office's strengths and successes across the firm's global platform. Collaboration and Integration Serve as a strategic advisor and connector between California partners, the events and sponsorships team, and the global business development network.Ensure California activities are aligned with regional and global strategies, exercising independent judgment in balancing local market needs and opportunities with broader firm priorities to contribute to wider firm growth initiatives.Share best practices and client intelligence across teams to strengthen the impact of California initiatives.Lateral recruitment - assist with local elements of the onboarding plan with appropriate PR/Communications and BD team. Innovation and Digital Enablement Leverage CRM, analytics, and digital marketing tools to analyze business development pipelines and enhance client engagement.Identify, evaluate and recommend innovative approaches to client development, including digital campaigns, webinars, and sector-focused insights. Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business or related field. Experience: 7+ years of marketing and business development experience, preferably in the legal or professional services industry. Experience working collaboratively and effectively as part of a global team. Experience navigating a complex, multi-authority, multi-cultural business environment. Skills Ability to develop and execute business development and marketing strategies that drive measurable growth across practices, industries, and regions.Ability to build trusted partnerships with senior stakeholders, including Office Managing Partners and Practice and Industry Group leaders.Deep understanding of the client lifecycle, with the ability to translate business priorities into actionable, client-centric initiatives that enhance visibility, strengthen relationships, and increase revenue.Ability to design scalable delivery models, optimizing processes, and driving efficiency while maintaining quality and consistency across markets.Strong presentation skills, with the ability to advise and engage senior partners and firm leaders confidently and diplomatically.Comfortable operating in a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment, balancing local responsiveness with alignment to global priorities.Strong organizational as well as proven oral and written communication skills with all levels of constituents to deal with complex subject matter.Excellent project management skills, problem-solving, organizational, decision making, and follow-up skills. Working conditions You will be required to work in the office at a minimum of 4 days per week. Occasionally called upon to work hours more than your normal daily schedule. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor. Pay ranges This represents the presently anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith's pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.
