About the role

The Regional Account Manager is directly responsible for representing PTC’s products to medical professionals specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of metabolic diseases and/or Phenylketonuria (PKU) within their assigned region. The incumbent handles all operational aspects of pharmaceutical sales and services, including generating sales, communicating and promoting the product's clinical and economic benefits, building and maintaining successful relationships, educating healthcare staff, and identifying new opportunities for commercial and scientific growth. They work cross-functionally with internal departments and external resources on Sales-related issues and support adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Responsibilities

  • Achieve assigned sales targets in a compliant manner and contribute to the overall success of the metabolism business unit.
  • Develop, execute, and continuously refine a strategic business plan for the assigned territory, clearly present territory strategy and performance, respond effectively to business-related questions, and maintain ownership of territory.
  • Implement marketing strategies to meet sales and patient objectives for metabolic and/or PKU products on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis.
  • Collaborate within a matrix environment, engaging with Patient Services, Patient Engagement, Marketing, Managed Markets, and Medical Affairs.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including the ability to clearly present complex technical and business information in both verbal and written formats.
  • Develop business partnerships with targeted physicians and healthcare staff, understanding their needs and discussing how PTC products and resources meet these needs.
  • Identify key treatment centers and facilities. Collaborate across centers and with their stakeholders to optimize patient care.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with patient and disease-focused advocacy groups.
  • Employ a consultative, solution-oriented sales approach tailored to healthcare professionals treating patients with metabolic diseases and/or PKU.
  • Address and resolve product access and reimbursement issues.
  • Cultivate relationships with key thought leaders in the metabolic and/or PKU therapeutic area.
  • Perform additional tasks and assignments as needed and specified by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degrees in the areas of Life sciences, business, or healthcare are preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare sales experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of rare disease, orphan drug, or highly specialized sales experience, including selling high-cost products distributed through a specialty pharmacy requiring extensive coordination with patient services.
  • Proven ability to build and execute a comprehensive territory business plan, present territory strategy, address business-related questions, and operate with full ownership and accountability for territory performance.
  • Proven track record of exceeding sales targets and successfully growing and managing a territory in prior roles.
  • Previous selling experience in specialized clinics, hospitals, and academic centers, including the ability to perform complete account selling.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical data and develop strategic and actionable business plans.
  • Strong knowledge of reimbursement, patient access, payer coverage, prior authorization, specialty pharmacy distribution, and related account pull-through in rare disease or specialty markets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed team environment consisting of internal and external team members.
  • Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills, including supporting and prioritizing multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout assigned territory (including nights and weekends as needed).
  • Field-based position. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a personal automobile with an active vehicle insurance policy. Must be able to travel daily to/from customer accounts and drive long distances (distances will vary based on the size of assigned territory).
  • Daily entry to hospitals and other medical facilities is required. Many facilities have instituted vendor credentialing policies requiring vendors to meet defined training, background check, and proof of immunization requirements as a condition of entry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting an orphan, rare disease, and/or specialized drug(s).
  • Experience working in a small but fast-growing, entrepreneurial sales environment.
  • Experience in “start-up” environments and new product launches.

Pay

Expected Base Salary Range: $174,300 - $225,500. The base salary offered will be contingent on assessment of candidate education level, background, and experience relative to the requirements of the position, as well as review of internal equity. In addition to base salary, PTC employees are also eligible for short- and long-term incentives.

Schedule

  • Field-based position with up to 75% travel, including overnight and weekend travel within and outside the assigned territory for sales meetings.
