About the role
The Refrigeration Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining and operating Industrial Refrigeration systems in Publix's warehouses and manufacturing facilities. The position involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing various mechanical and electrical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and operate Industrial Refrigeration systems
- Conduct daily rounds to observe and record temperatures and humidity levels, and make minor adjustments
- Repair and perform predictive and preventative maintenance procedures on ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems
- Train and supervise entry-level refrigeration technicians
- Participate in improvement activities to enhance processes and minimize downtime
- Perform general housekeeping duties such as cleaning and washing equipment
- Handle or train entry-level refrigeration technicians
- Respond to unplanned breakdowns with urgency
Requirements
- At least 18 years old
- Ability to obtain EPA Section 608 certification within one year of start date
- Medical clearance to wear respiratory protection within two weeks of acceptance
- Ability to lift a minimum of 65 pounds
- Experience using hand tools
- Ability to supply and maintain hand tools
- Excellent work habits in line with GMP’s
- Compliance with OSHA, PSM, HAZMAT, and Publix safety programs and regulations
- Knowledge of proper handling and recycling instructions for refrigerants
- Safe replacement of mechanical and electrical components
- Read and interpret schematics and drawings
- Generate and process work on a computerized maintenance management system
- Safe work habits
- Interpret, understand, follow, and communicate instructions
- Work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Basic math skills
- Self-motivated to work independently with little or no supervision
- Willingness to assist other team members in other areas
- Ability to work any shift, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain medical clearance to wear respiratory protection
- Ability to lift a minimum of 65 pounds
- Experience using hand tools
- Knowledge of refrigeration systems including ammonia or Freon
- Experience in electrical systems including single and three phase motor systems
- Experience maintaining 480V C3 phase motor control systems
- Experience troubleshooting 480V C3 phase motor control systems
- Experience in refrigeration including maintaining and troubleshooting systems
- Working knowledge of process instrumentation
- Working knowledge of maintaining and troubleshooting PLC controllers
- Hazmat Certification
- Refrigeration Engineers Technician Association (RETA) certification
