Refrigeration Boiler Technician

Provide industrial maintenance support while performing a variety of tasks including corrective maintenance (CM), preventative maintenance (PM), and predictive maintenance (PDM). Install and repair industrial and commercial refrigerating systems, including plant utilities, ammonia refrigeration, HVAC, steam, water, gas, compressed air, and building systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate and perform maintenance on boiler condensate return systems, boiler feed water systems, sack economizers, and chemical injection systems for boilers and cooling towers.
• Understand ammonia characteristics, properties, dangers, and proper handling procedures.
• Start systems, observe operation, read gauges and instruments, and adjust mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps to control level of fluid, pressure, and temperature in system.
• Dismantle malfunctioning systems, test components, and provide long-term corrective action to all levels of equipment/systems utilizing root cause analysis.
• Replace or adjust defective or worn parts to repair systems as part of the Process Safety Management system and safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) and scorecards to drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure USDA regulatory compliance, HACCP, SSOP, SOP, GMP, and SQF program quality and safety.
• Advocate and maintain a strong commitment to safety in the operating process including PPE, preventing and reporting unsafe acts and conditions, Lockout-Tag out procedures, and Process Safety Management related matters.

Requirements

• Associate's degree from two-year college or technical school in mechanical and/or electrical field preferred or equivalent related experience.
• RETA certificate strongly preferred.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Process Safety Management (PSM) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) Database software.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to internal and external customers.
• Basic arithmetic skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
• May frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
