Referral Specialist Specialty Clinics

Living in Casper, Wyoming, you will find mountain trails, fishing, and access to lakes within minutes of the hospital. Centrally located in the state, Casper allows easy travel to attractions like the Big Horn Mountains, Thermopolis Hot Springs, and Yellowstone National Park. About the role

This position manages outgoing referrals for specialty clinics, coordinating with offices inside and outside of Banner. Based at the Neuro Surgery Clinic, you will also float to other specialty clinics in Casper as needed. A medical knowledge or background is preferred.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM (no weekends).

Responsibilities

• Schedules appointments for specialty physician services and diagnostic testing per provider request and communicates with patients on a timely basis for all scheduling requirements.
• Acts as a liaison between patients, providers, and staff for referral and follow-up needs, providing prompt and professional service.
• Assists in educating patients and families and connects them with external resources when needed.
• Provides all pertinent clinical information for payor authorization, verifies coverage, obtains authorization, and communicates with receiving facilities.
• Tracks and manages all referrals by monitoring outstanding referrals at 30/60/90-day intervals and follows up with patients if appointments are not kept.
• Applies knowledge of medical terminology and stays updated on the insurance environment, utilizing internal and external resources.
• Collaborates with outside referral sources and community resources, maintaining an updated list of contacts.
• Works with managed health care concepts and prioritizes tasks with moderate supervision.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
• One year of direct patient interaction/experience in a medical, insurance, or healthcare-related industry.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
• Strong customer service focus and problem-solving skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Proficiency with commonly used office software.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous knowledge of managed care concepts.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9/CPT codes.
• Additional related education and/or experience.
