Referral Specialist
Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is a leading community health center serving over 227,000 patients annually, with a special focus on uninsured and low-income individuals. Operating more than 90 sites across San Diego County, FHCSD offers a wide array of services including adult care, pediatrics, dental, vision, and behavioral health.
About the role
We are seeking a Referral Specialist to support our referral process. Key responsibilities include accurately completing referrals, scheduling appointments, managing the referral pool, and communicating with clinic staff and patients.
Responsibilities
- Accurately completes referrals with ICD-9 and CPT codes, following department protocols
- Makes initial appointments into CMIS; provides appointment cancellation information
- Tracks and schedules patient services as required
- Communicates referral status to clinic staff through CMIS updates and chart notes
- Enters required data, including insurance and screening information
- Provides fee information for self-pay patients
- Fulfills crisis patients' needs according to established protocols
- Makes reminder calls and schedules interpreter services as needed
- Sends accurate and timely data about referrals and appointments by site
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- One year of experience in an ambulatory care setting required
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
- Valid California driver's license, automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance required
