About the role

Reeves Construction Company is seeking a qualified Asphalt Plant Maintenance Technician to serve the Piedmont regional asphalt plants in Duncan, Piedmont, Pacolet, and Blacksburg.

Responsibilities

• Promote Safety: Actively prioritize safety for yourself and others at all times in accordance with OSHA and Reeves standards.
• Repair and Maintain Plant Equipment: Perform repairs and maintenance throughout the plant, including screen changes, conveyor belt repair and adjustment, wear parts replacement, crusher liner changes, and water pump service. Perform cutting, grinding, and welding as needed. Lubricate, clean, and service heavy mobile and stationary equipment to maximize performance and limit downtime.
• Inspect Equipment and Structures: Conduct daily inspections and maintenance of plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations, maximizing production and minimizing interruptions. Perform routine oil samples, interpret results, and make recommendations based on analysis.
• Document and Record Information: Ensure accurate daily and monthly documentation of all equipment. Maintain service reports for equipment in written or electronic form, including service and lubrication reports to ensure preventative maintenance is up to date.
• Monitor Processes and Materials: Monitor and review plant operations, particularly aggregate crushing, washing, and screening areas, to identify problems and ensure safety and materials compliance.
• Handle and Move Objects: Safely handle, install, position, and move parts, materials, and industrial hand tools throughout the shop and plant.
• Perform General Physical Activities: Engage in physical activities requiring whole-body movement, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

Requirements

• Previous experience in the aggregate or construction industry is preferred.
• Knowledge of general principles and practices of industrial maintenance, construction, or aggregate production is preferred.
• Must be able to work overtime and extended hours based on customer and company demands.
• Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and tolerate exposure to loud noises.
• Mechanical Skills: Knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Stick welding: 1 year (Required).
• Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (Preferred).
• MIG welding: 1 year (Preferred).

Skills

• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to climb onto and up and down machinery several times a day.
• Must be able to sit in and operate machinery for several hours without stopping.
• Must withstand vibration from job site conditions and noise from other equipment.
• Must be able to use arms, hands, and feet in repetitive motions.
• Must perform manual tasks such as placing paint drums on vehicles.
• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach and signal with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
• Frequently required to stand and walk; occasionally required to sit.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employees must have 20/40 vision, either naturally or with corrective lenses. Hearing should be excellent or corrected by an audio device.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
• Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
