Responsibilities
- Embrace the Novelis Safety Absolutes to build a zero-injury culture and the Novelis cultural beliefs to support our 24/7 operations
- Schedule and direct employees in assignment and completion of production work
- Create and train a team of workers to achieve or exceed budgeted production goals while maintaining compliance with environmental and other regulatory requirements
- Check the types, location, quantity, and availability of materials needed to complete the production requirements for the shift
- Check records from previous shift, and alert maintenance of potential equipment problems
- Direct incoming material shipments where, when and how to unload
- Establish or adjust work procedures to meet schedules
- Determine overtime work schedule and approve employee time in Kronos
- Complete all production information to be entered
- Interpret instructions, specifications, or job orders to employees
- Maintain production output and quality data
- Compile reports for management review
- Provide hands-on operation of furnaces with responsibility for optimizing recoveries
- Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product
- Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase employee efficiency
- Analyze and resolve or assist workers in resolving work related problems
- Conduct meetings with employees and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations, and company policies and procedures
- Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments or shifts
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Novelis policies and applicable laws
- Work collaboratively with Maintenance and Engineering departments to support initiatives and activities for reliable people, processes, and equipment
- Aid in the development and refinement of training programs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years as an Operations Supervisor
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work with both internal and external customers, suppliers and contractors
- Solid understanding of lean manufacturing or World Class Manufacturing
- Ability to solve problems while showing good judgment and a realistic understanding of the issues involved
- Ability to achieve results, handle multiple tasks and objectives in parallel and handle the technical and social issues associated with change
- Success in driving a positive culture of partnership, accountability and employee development
